Improving National Laboratoty Policy in Haiti

The consultants from SPHIP Monitoring Facility travelled to Haiti from 8th to 11th December of 2015 to meet the project: SPHaïtiLab : Support to National Laboratory of Public Health to improve the National Laboratory Policy of Haiti. In this occasion, Ms. Anne Nicolay, Programme Manager from European Commission – DEVCO joint the consultants during the entire mission.

The trip was very productive to meet the lead organisation Foundation Mérieux, the beneficiary organisation Laboratoire National de Santé Publique - LNSP, plus main project partners, as Le Groupe Haïtien d'Etude du Sarcome de Kaposi et des Infections Opportunistes - GHESKIO  and Direction d’Epidémiologie de Laboratoire et de Recherches - DELR.

The Monitoring Facility project and the consortium could work all together in the adjustment of the Logical Framework and its indicators. It was a fruitful session to have a Framework more in line with the objectives and expected results.

In addition, a session about communication for policy change followed. It was beneficial to understand the importance of the communication component in the project. Later on, Foundation Mérieux explained the project milestones, showed the Laboratory facilities at LNSP and organised a visit to meet GHESKIO staff and visit its laboratories.

Others meetings took place with different stakeholders, which helped to have a broader vision of SPHaïtiLab project, as the visit to DELR installations, the meeting with the “Directeur de Cabinet du Ministre de la Santé Publique et de la Population” and the meeting to European Union Delegation in Haiti.

In conclusion, it was a nice week of work, and we encourage SPHaïtiLab project to keep working in the same line!
