In this video Paul Smoke, Professor of Public Finance and Planning and Director of International Programs, at NYU University, untangles the concept of local autonomy. First, explaining why autonomy at the local level, i.e. the ability of local authorities to respond to their constituents, is so important. Examining in particular the trade offs between central government duties taking place at the local level and Local Authorities autonomy to design and implement their own policies.
