In this short segment Tulia Falleti, Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania explores how decentralisation differs from other types of state reform, drawing particularly on examples from Latin America. Decentralisation entails the devolution or the delegation of authority, resources and responsibilities to the subnational governments. This can be done through administrative decentralization (transfer of responsabilities), fiscal decentralisation (taxation and transfers), and political decentralisation (more than just elections at the local level).
