Title of RWP: Health safety tools for gold mining sites in Amonikakine, Busia Eastern Uganda.

Brief Description: Local gold mining in Amonikakine busia involves use of mercury (Hg) and cyanide which are health hazards to human bodies. These tools need to be substituted with health friendly equipment for the safety of both gold miners & human communities in Amonikakine & other mining sites elsewhere.

Mercury vapour inhalation of mercury can destroy the nervous, digestive & immune systems, lungs & kidneys, & may be fatal. The inorganic salts of mercury are corrosive to the skin, eyes & gastrointestinal tract, & may induce kidney toxicity if ingested.
