Title of RWP: Strengthening the capacity of Lime burners and stone quarry developers of Osukuru and Kisoko sub counties, Tororo District on management of environment, Health and safety at work environment.

Brief Description: The lime burners and quarry operators are carrying out their activities without guidance because they are not organised. Their activities pose great risk to environment, health and safety of workers and the community surrounding the project areas. During burning of lime, a lot of smoke is emitted hence affecting the community members and the workers.

Lime burning processes consumes a lot of fuel wood hence leading to indiscriminate tree cutting in the district.

During packaging of the lime too much lime dust is emitted and the workers are not protected during this activity. This means either the workers are not empowered to demand for the protective wears or they do not know the impact of this activity to their health.

This project will therefore help to change the community mindsets and behaviour so that they adopt best practices.
